First off, what all is involved in scheduled transmission service?  We’ll give you a clue, it is largely connected to transmission fluid.  From CARTALK.COM: “Transmission fluid is a slippery liquid that acts as a lubricant for all of the moving parts inside your transmission. In an automatic transmission, this fluid also serves as a coolant and a viscous fluid that transmits power from the engine to the transmission.A variety of fluids are used for different transmissions. Automatic transmissions use something called — shockingly — automatic transmission fluid. Manual transmissions use a variety of oils: regular motor oil, heavyweight hypoid gear oil or even automatic transmission fluid in some cases. Your owner’s manual will tell you what your transmission calls for. SOURCE ARTICLE

Do you really need to change the transmission fluid?  in a word, yes.  You see, your transmission gets some of the biggest amount of wear and tear in your vehicle.  As a result of this, your transmission gets constantly heated up and cooled down, which causes it to lose it’s viscosity (a fancy word for lubrication).  If your gears in your transmission aren’t lubricated properly it can cause them to break.

What Is Involved With Scheduled Transmission Service?

First off the transmission fluid is checked.  If it is red and clear, it’s fine.  If it is darker, it needs transmission fluid replacement.  The gears are also checked, and the mechanic makes sure it is keeping a charge.   You never want your transmission to get into bad shape or your repair bill will be a lot higher.

So remember, it’s a great idea to be proactive about a lot of things in life, and transmission repair is one of them.
