A key difference between an automatic transmission and a manual transmission is how many times you shift gears. As a rule, if you have an automatic transmission, you usually shift gears about three times every time you go for a drive. You shift into reverse when you back out of a driveway, garage, or a parking spot, shift into drive or overdrive if you are driving, and shift it into park when you have reached your destination. In the city, an automatic transmission is king. It’s a lot easier to drive when you don’t have to keep shifting up or down. However, in the country, a stick shift is a pure pleasure to drive, as it adds to the whole driving experience.
