Transmission Repair in Mesa: Preventative Maintenance

Although most modern automatic transmissions require very little maintenance, most manufacturers require periodic service. So what’s involved in servicing an automatic transmission? Probably not as much as you think. For the most part, transmission servicing involves replacing the fluid and the filter. But before we get started, let’s talk for a minute about why it’s important to service your automatic transmission. The inside of your automatic transmission is a hostile place with operating temperatures reaching well over 200 degrees.

This heat breaks down your transmission fluid at a molecular level which in turn causes the friction materials on the internal clutches to loose efficiency. As the clutches begin to slip, more heat is generated breaking down the fluid even more If you can change the fluid before this vicious cycle gets too far along, you can potentially save yourself some very expensive transmission repairs.

How Often Should I Change My Transmission Fluid?

In general, we recommend changing the fluid every 30,000 miles. Let’s get started. This jobs going to take you under the vehicle so let’s make sure you got the vehicle safely supported on some jack stands. Also, make sure your transmission is warm from a recent drive.

The transmission on your vehicle may be equipped with a drain plug for draining the fluid, if it does not have a drain plug it will be necessary to unbolt the bolts around the perimeter on the pan to lower the pan and drain the fluid. Lucky for us our transmission is equipped with a drain plug making our job much easier. So remove the drain plug and let the fluid drain into a pan. When the fluid is drained, install the plug and tighten it to its proper specifications. Be sure to dispose of the old fluid responsibly. Here is a typical automatic transmission without a drain plug.

If you have got a pan with no drain plug, loosen the bolts around the perimeter of the pan and let the fluid drain. Once the pan is removed, you’ll usually find a filter that needs to be replaced as well Clean up the pan, install the new gasket and tighten the pan bolts to specification. Now fill the transmission with the proper amount and type of transmission fluid. Then check the level and make sure there are no leaks.

Ultimately, you also don’t want to take any chances.  Take your car to a Mesa transmission repair shop.

Cars that equipped with automatic transmissions offer an array of advantages including the ease of driving, fuel economy and buyers get the value of their money.

Expertise and Training at Your Mesa Transmission Repair Shop

Hiring a professional mechanic to fix your transmission problem puts your mind at ease. A qualified transmission repair technician has undergone plenty of training and gained the necessary experience required to qualify for the profession. Keep in mind that transmission repair specialists are different from general mechanics. The latter are trained to perform repairs on most areas of an automobile while transmission specialists are mainly trained to perform transmission repairs, replacements, and rebuilds. For instance, 4×4 vehicles are meant to be driven in complex terrains and to haul massive weights and equipment. As such, truck transmissions are made in an intricate design to enable them to handle the rough terrain. If there is anything amiss with the vehicle transmission, only a trained specialist has the practical aptitude to diagnose and fix the repair efficiently.

Proper diagnosis

To have the right repairs done, you will need an expert transmission repair mechanic, who can troubleshoot and fix issues appropriately. The following are warning signs that your car needs a transmission repair:

Professional Transmission Repair in Mesa: Avoid the Traps and Dirty Tricks

While a general mechanic might, and we stress the word might, be able to work on it, there are a few things that you need to be aware of.

Why Transmission Repair in Mesa is Best Left to a Pro

First off, a lot of mechanics and auto repair shops out there will “farm out” your transmission repair to a transmission repair shop in Mesa, or some other part of the valley.  Why does this matter?  It’s still going to get fixed, right?  Well, yes, but you may be in for some sticker shock.

Everytime a vehicle or component changes hands, because of the dirty tricks some auto mechanics play, there is an additional fee added to your repair bill.  It might be called shipping, or a “transportation fee,” but it is a ripoff.  For example, most of the time the transportation cost is merely someone driving a rebuilt transmission in a car or a truck back to the original shop that farmed the repair out.  So essentially, you’re paying fuel costs which is reasonable, mileage, which is also reasonable, and a bit of money to wet the beak of the repair shop, which is not really reasonable at all.

Why You Should Go to a Mesa Transmission Repair Shop Instead

Why should you take your car to a Mesa transmission repair shop instead?  Well, for one, they have a lot of different things that they can work on in your car’s power train  such as differential repair.

Differential repair is often not even on the list of things that a lot of mechanics can work on.  Neither is transfer case repair.  But all cars and trucks have a differential and if you have a four wheel drive, you have a transfer case.  There is another reason to take your car to a professional transmission repair shop in Mesa, to get the best value for your money.

A professional transmission repair shop can offer you different choices should the worst happen and you need to replace your transmission.  They might be able to offer you a reconditioned transmission for a fraction of the cost of a brand new one.

So save yourself some time.  Save yourself some money and some aggravation too.  Take your car to a transmission repair shop in Mesa.

Reasons for Professional Transmission Repair in Mesa (Contd.)

Friday, September 16th, 2016

If you have an automatic transmission, sooner or later you’ll need transmission repair in Mesa.

Transmission Repair in Mesa: The Professional Touch

Automatic Transmission Repair Should Be Left in the Hands of a Professional | (480) 447-2727

Automatic Transmission Repair Should Be Left in the Hands of a Professional | (480) 447-2727

As we covered previously, there are several reasons to seek out professional transmission repair in Mesa. Perhaps your car or vehicle has been having problems recently, or maybe it just needs to go get a regular tune-up.

Reasons for Professional Transmission Repair in Mesa

Continuing from our previous list:

  1. It’s Their Specialty. While this point might relate to just what kind of specific sector that the mechanic is adept at doing, it can also refer to merely their skills set. The professional working at a Mesa transmission repair shop might have plenty of experience in this type of work, but you need to ask yourself if such work is well done.

Some might be naturally-gifted at it while others might just get by with doing a temporary fix and letting someone else step in to finish the rest later. If what you’re seeing is the latter, then you might need to consider hiring them for your vehicle’s transmission, especially if you can find someone else who can get it done straight away and effectively.

  1. Good service. What might be surprising is that many vehicle owners forget that, besides getting a good transmission repair, having good customer service is just as important. If your transmission repairman does not communicate effectively or tries to over-charge you for the service, then that is not a money (let alone experience) well-spent.

Before heading into the shop, know your rights and use your judgment when discussing with the professionals. You are not obliged to agree to anything, and so it is important to decide for yourself if it will be worth it or not.

  1. Warranty and insurance. Just like with any other important factors in life (e.g. health, home security, work), vehicles need to come with warranty, as well as insurance. Having these aspects will help make sure that you and your car are protected, as well as receive support in case something was to happen to either of you.

Therefore, ask your professional services about these options, and see if their offers are good for you. By doing so, rest assured you will be consistently in good hands down the line for automatic transmission repairs.

Overall, professional transmission services for repairing or simply fine-tuning your vehicle is not as daunting or expensive as you might imagine. By knowing that the car is being treated with patience and care will reassure you that it will be well-repaired to be used in the many years to come.

Even more good reasons to hire a transmission repair shop in Mesa.

Reasons to Get Transmission Repair in Mesa (Conclusion)

When should you get transmission repair done?

Transmission Repair in Mesa: Sooner

Vs. Later

Transmission repair is cheapest when done early. As we covered previously, If you wait too long, not only will the required repairs cost a lot more, but you also face the risk of getting stranded somewhere. If your transmission completely fails you, the vehicle will not move. This could happen to you anywhere. Y

ou might be at home, or you might be driving on the highway heading to work. Waiting to get these services might be the worst decision you have ever made. If you get stranded, you will have to call a tow truck. This will be an additional expense you will incur from waiting out your repairs. If you had not waited, you could have just dropped your vehicle off at a Mesa transmission repair shop. This would have saved you a lot of money.

Fix Your Transmission at a Transmission Repair Shop

There are times when only minor work is needed to fix the problems that are occurring. There are also cases when this part completely stops functioning, which may require getting a brand new or rebuilt transmission. A lot of shops will offer prices for both. Getting a rebuilt one will cost less, but you face more risk that it will break down more quickly. In most cases, rebuilt ones are very good though. They will usually last almost as long as a brand new one would, and most shops will offer a warranty anyway. The warranties offered are different depending on the shop. Some will offer a warranty for a specified period of time, such as 6 months. Other shops may offer a warranty based on mileage. They will record your mileage at the time and may offer the warranty for 10,000 miles, or a different amount.

When you need transmission repair, bring your vehicle in as soon as possible. Have the shop do an evaluation and inspection of your system. Before they fix anything, ask them to call you to tell you what the problems are. At this time, they will also be able to give you a quote for services, along with any additional information that you may need to know. This will include warranty information and the length of time it will take for them to fix your car.

Your car will operate great if the transmission is running the way it should be. If anything goes wrong though, the car will not drive well. It will drive roughly, and will have trouble shifting or moving. Choose an experienced repair shop for your transmission repairs. You will be guaranteed to receive great work for reasonable prices. A reputable shop will also stand behind their work by offering a warranty on the repairs that they do. They will guarantee that the problems are fixed using the best possible methods.

These reasons, and many more are reasons to go with a transmission repair shop in Mesa.

Manual Transmission Problems and Transmission Repair in Mesa

When do you need manual transmission repair?

A transmission repair shop in Mesa should be able to help you with manual transmission repair as well as automatic. A manual transmission is found in cars with a stick shift. The stick shift is characterized by the H-shaped recess below the stick. Instead of automatically transitioning from one gear to another, the car manually transitions when you move the stick around the H, pushing in the clutch to the left of the gas pedal as you do. This takes practice and is more difficult than driving an automatic. Most people who choose a manual transmission do so because of the better miles to gallon gas ratio, or the desire to have more control over the vehicle.

The good news about manual transmissions is that repairing them is relatively inexpensive, compared to repairing an automatic transmission. If you’re not a car expert, you shouldn’t fix it yourself. Nonetheless, you should know some common problems and repairs for manual transmissions so you can assess whether or not your mechanic is giving you a fair price.

Fix Your Manual Tranmission

An important issue to remember that is the same whether your transmission is manual or automatic is that the transmission fluid must be replaced periodically. A burning smell always means trouble. The transmission fluid should be just under, but not past, the full line. It should be pink, and never brown.

If your car is making a rattling noise when you travel at low speeds, it might mean that your car’s construction allows for more transaxle movements at some gears than others. If that’s the case, you may need to switch to synthetic gear oil. This may be part of your car, rather than a repair issue.

If the clutch needs to be replaced frequently, it might be a sign that your driving habits need to change. Normally, your clutch should be good for at the very least 40,000 miles and usually more. If it doesn’t last that long, you may be switching gears too quickly or using the clutch to slow the car going downhill when you should be using the brakes. Short clutch life can also be caused by pulling heavy loads. Even if you’re careful, it’s normal to need to replace the clutch after about 60,000 miles and if you have excellent driving habits you can eke a few more miles out of it than this.

Take care of your car and it will take care of you.  The best way to start is to go to a Mesa transmission repair shop.

Manual Transmission Problems and Repairs (Contd.)

Friday, July 1st, 2016

Manual transmission repair is easier than automatic transmission repair.  With that said, only let an expert handle it.

Why Only a Pro Should Do Manual Transmission Repair

Get manual transmission service in Mesa | (480) 447-2727

Get manualtransmission service in Mesa | (480) 447-2727

As we covered previously,if you are having problems with your manual transmission, don’t try to fix it yourself, take it to a mechanic.

If your transmission leaks, you might have too much transmission fluid. If the transmission case is cracked or warped, that also can result in leakage. Missing bolts, loose pieces, and clogs in the vent hole also can cause transmission lubricant leaks. If you suspect you have a transmission leak, park your car on a layer of paper towels. That will allow you to determine where the leak is.

If your transmission makes a lot of noise in any one particular gear, you need to take it to a mechanic quickly. This can be a of sign worn bearings on that gear, as well as a lack of brake fluid.

Sounds of a Manual Transmission Problem

If your drivetrain is making noise when you’re driving, there are a few possible causes. One possibility is worn out wheel bearings. Noise that only appears (or only disappears) when turning is usually caused by wheel bearings that need to be replaced, which is good news since this has nothing to do with your transmission and is cheaper to fix.

If you can’t easily shift from one gear to the next, it might mean that the linkage needs to be replaced. If you hear grinding when you’re trying to shift gears, it’s probably a problem with the synchronizers, which interact with the gears to control their speed.

Whatever the problem is, it’s wise to take your car, truck or SUV in and have a transmission specialist look at it. Some companies will even give you a no cost external diagnosis of your transmission plus and estimate for repairs. Since being stranded is not most people’s definition of a fun time, regular maintenance is helpful along with taking your vehicle in for expert advice when you feel or hear anything out of the ordinary.

The problems that develop with manual transmissions may involve anything from a clutch going out to a pin missing, which allows the transmission to become misaligned. If your mechanic replaces your clutch, he will clean the pressure plate and flywheel to ensure that there is no oil on these surfaces.

Your mechanic should also check the pilot bearing and the throw-out bearing, to make sure that they haven’t become too worn to operate effectively. The throw-out bearing’s inside collar can also become scored.

Make sure you take your car into a Mesa transmission repair shop.

Transmission Repair and Gear Shifting Problems

Why do you need to be proactive about automatic transmission repair?  Driving when some of your gears are not in working order can be a pain. In fact, it is a potential risk to your life because you can never be too sure of how the vehicle will respond. You do not want to get stuck on the highways just because your gears have failed. With an automatic transmission that is working correctly, you should find it much easier to shift into gear.

As we covered previously, one of the most common problems with a transmission is that after some time, some gears fail to work properly. This affects how your car performs especially when it comes to thing such as spread and fuel consumption. This can lead to, at best, a jarring ride. At worst, it can slowly start causing irreparable damage to your transmission. Think of it in term of an illness or injury.

Is it better to take care of your health, or let it go until you have a heart attack. The same sort of though process applies to transmission repair in Mesa.

It is important to note that even though repairing your transmission has a lot of benefits, you will not enjoy any of them if you do not know how to find the best transmission repair shop in Mesa. Just because there are many individuals as well as companies that offer these services does not mean that they all are good. In fact, as you will find out, there is a big difference in what they can do. You do not have to rush into choosing the first option that comes your way even without knowing what to expect from them.

The Best Transmission Shop in Mesa

The best approach is to look for a Mesa transmission repair shop that has state-of-the-art equipment. You cannot trust anyone to offer the best services when they do not even have the tools needed to do the job. You also might want to contract someone who has been doing this for longer because according to reliable studies, they acquire unique skills as the days go by. If there is no specific shop that you know of, you might want to compare their suitability by finding out if their customers are a satisfied lot or if they are always complaining.

So take care of your car. And part of that is to get transmission repair in Mesa.

The Dangers of DIY Transmission Repair (Contd.)

Friday, November 27th, 2015

Is it hard to fix your transmission yourself? Yes. And not only is it hard, it can be prohibitively expensive.  In order to fix the transmission, you must be able to determine what error codes mean for starters. If not, you will not be able to determine what the problem is, and if you choose to repair it anyway, you might end up damaging the whole transmission.

How Risky is Do It Yourself Transmission Repair?

How risky is do it yourself transmission repair? Your automatic transmission is a very sophisticated piece of equipment. In a simple automatic, there are over a thousand components.  These are important components that you cannot safely work with. The best decision you can make is to drop your DIY attitude and forget about saving your money by calling a professional. All vehicle components require tools and equipment that are specially designed for that specific purpose. You can’t use an allen wrench on a bolt system, for example. And it’s highly likely that you do not own tools to fix your transmission, the cost of these tools may well cost you more than your car did.

Furthermore, you cannot just use any kind of tool you find in your garage because it might end up damaging the transmission. Once again, some auto problems are better left to professionals- professionals who have got the right tools and knowledge to fix your vehicle’s transmission.

It’s fine to repair your car/truck’s transmission if you have the tools and experience to do so. But if not, do not dare touch it. Why?

You probably don’t realize how complicated it actually is to repair this special part of a vehicle. You will need to have the knowledge and experience of a professional in order to fix it successfully.
